Saudis Prepare for Nuclear Fallout from Iran
    by Margaret Kimberley | March 24, 2008 - 3:57am

article tools: email | print | read more Margaret Kimberley

    From Freedom Rider Blog

I think we can stop asking if Bush will attack Iran. This little gem was reported by the German news service DPA.

"The Saudi-based King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology has prepared a proposal that encapsulates the probabilities of leaking nuclear and radiation hazards in case of any unexpected nuclear attacks in Iran, the Okaz Saudi newspaper said."

Well, that little NIE report last fall was just a minor inconvenience. Bush and Cheney know that if they keep lying they get their way. They also know that the Democrats will do nothing. John Conyers swears that he really, really means it this time. He claims he will hold impeachment hearings if Bush attacks Iran. Puhleeze. Spare us. The Democrats will do nothing and Bush knows it.

I for one can't stomach being an accomplice to a war crime. Not enough people feel the same way, so many thousands of Iranians are about to die.

    Hat tip to Chris Floyd.

    Unofficial Election

Let's hold an unofficial election of sorts.

    Everyone go to WWW.WEXLERWANTSHEARINGS.COM

    to sign on for impeachment.

We can do it. No point in waiting for Conyers. As Margaret says he will never do it. He's bought, blackmailed or a coward like Pelosi and Reid.

Get everyone you know and everyone you don't know to sign on at WWW.WEXLERWANTSHEARINGS.COM

GO AHEAD AND JUMP!!! MIGHT AS WELL

    Lying Asswipes

Ya, ok, Conyers. You and do noting Reid, as well as the other Democratic pussies should be exiled to a deserted island and have your nads gnawed off by a black bear.
Oh wait, I see that has been done already.

Let's get this right. Conyers is saying that if Bush should bomb Iran, and ONLY if Bush bombs Iran, will he be really really mad and impeach Bush?

    What a total flaming asshole!

besides oil, the Saudis are full of shit.

Iran does not have nuclear weapons. This "story" is just a press release concocted by Cheney for the Saudis to read out loud.

    Please read the item again

Or better yet, go to the original source, which makes it clear that the Saudis are worried about Israeli or US attacks on Iranian civilian reactor sites, and the possible fallout that could result from that:

The Saudi Shura council will secretly discuss national plans to deal with any sudden nuclear and radioactive hazards that may affect the kingdom following experts' warnings of possible attacks on Iran's Bushehr nuclear reactors....

It isn't about trying to push the "Iranian nukes" story to justify the Cheney plan to attack Iran - it's about dealing with the aftermath of the Cheney plan to attack Iran.

    A subtle distinction, perhaps....

Remember 1st Gulf War, when ISRAEL

Remember before the 1st Gulf War, the ISRAELI's made sure all the little Jewish children & babies got GAS MASKS -- but they refused to let the PALESTINIAN children & babies have Gas Masks, which the FIRST a'hole Pre. H.W. Bush was just FINE with, being such a MORAL, "Christian", "compassionate" person, who was "PRO-LIFE"!

To these Neo-Cons & Righ-Wing Fundamentalist Extremists, whether Christian, Jewish or I guess MORMON (ROMNEY being floated now as possible MCCAIN Ticket V.P. Candidate) "HUMAN LIFE" only matters if it is THEIR precious little "darlings" lives that are in danger.

I worry more about a crazy Israeli SETTLER extremist type TERRORIST getting their hands on Nuclear, BIO, or CHEMICAL Weapons Materials, either by buying off the Black Weapons market, or by "infiltrating" the Israeli Military forces in charge of such materials & weapons caches. Who exactly in ISRAEL has their finger on THEIR "RED BUTTON"?/

I'm sure our own Defense (War) Dept. worries about this scenario, too, but of course would never admit.
My OTHER worry-wart is the danger of one of the herd of FUNDAMENTALIST EVANGELICAL RIGHT-WING EXTREMISTS from LIBERTY UNIVERSITY, & those who have swelled their numbers at WEST POINT, for ex., now working inside our Military & in the Pentagon, will find a way to get THEIR finger on a "RED BUTTON", or decide to "get the END TIMES ARMAGEDDON EXPRESS a'rolling"!

Imagine a diciple of wingnut Rev. JOHN HAGEE being put in charge of manning a Nuclear Sub, for ex. That scenario wlll give you nightmares!

    Bombing Iran

The murderous arrogance of this administration is breath-taking to behold.

The Americans meddled in Iran in 1953, deposing an elected Prime Minister and installing the sadistic, demented Shah, who could only rule through (American taught) terror. Was that adventure a success?

Iran has no nuclear weapons. Israel does, though. Lots of them. So does America, the only nation to deploy them as crimes against humanity. So far.

In its insanity, the US risks drawing both China and Russia into WW III. America would deserve that for cowering to Bush, but not the rest of the world.

US deploys nuclear sub to Persian Gulf’

    Monday, March 24, 2008
TEHRAN: An American nuclear submarine has crossed the Suez Canal to join the US fleet stationed in the Persian Gulf, Egyptian sources say.

Egyptian officials reported that the nuclear submarine crossed the canal along with a destroyer on Friday and Egyptian forces were put on high alert when the navy convoy was passing through the canal.

An American destroyer recently left the Persian Gulf, heading towards the Mediterranean Sea; earlier on Thursday, a US Navy rescue ship crossed the canal to enter the Red Sea.

The deployment comes as recent reports allege that US Vice President Dick Cheney is seeking to rally the support of Middle Eastern states for launching an attack on Iran.

    Jokes about Kitty Hawk

Hey jerk, making JOKES about the 6 yr. old CHILD of a U.S. Navy sailor serving on the U.S.S. KITTYHAWK, or any other of our Ships, is SICK, NOT FUNNY, & shows a level of JUVENILE immaturity that "juveniles" I know don't exhibit!

We have REAL enemies out there, & the ordinary ENLISTED VOLUNTEERS who serve on U.S. Warships like the USS Kitty Hawk are out there, often in 140 frackin' degree heat, on that Aircraft Carrier deck, or stuck inside that cramped, running silent Nuclear Submarine, to protect YOUR ass, & to protect YOUR 6 yr. old daughter or son, your family, your country!

My ONLY son served on an Aircraft Carrier, & I was PROUD as HELL of him. You should read the History of what the frackin' JAPANESE did in W.W.II. You wouldn't want to be caught in a WAR ZONE because it ain't pretty! If we WERE attacked here on the Homeland, YOU would be the FIRST one to be SCREAMING for the MARINES, the ARMY, the AIR FORCE, & the frackin' NATIONAL GUARD to come & rescue your stupid self!

There's just NO EXCUSE for the kind of sick "humor" about a child losing her "daddy" that you wrote here, which is why I am "venting" so strongly! The family members of the Sailors who DIED on the U.S.S. COLE, because of a Terrorist's attack, know what "Sacrificing" for your country means.

You, sir, obviously have NO CLUE what it means!

(And I am a PEACE Activist; doesn't mean I don't believe in a STRONG DEFENSE, but that we should use DIPLOMACY, Conflict Resolution, the Peace Corp, etc., any & all PEACEFUL means of addressing world problems & conflicts that threaten to lead to WAR.

But, sometimes when ALL such methods fail, America must defend her interests & ensure SURVIVAL of our Nation. Like when we were attacked at Pearl Harbor; NOT like Iraq, which never attacked us; NOT like helping the ISRAELI's occupy & oppress the people of PALESTINE, for example. NOT when Israel acts like the NAZI's did to THEM, toward the Palestinians.

You're obviously too young to remember the panic over the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Earth is still covered with Nuclear weapons, dotted with Nuclear power plants, & it is still a very dangerous place. It is a toss-up if the Human Race will survive, or if we will turn the Earth into a radioactive SLAG HEAP of contaminated sterile desert zones.

It will take wise leaders to avert that future.

    So what's your point?
    You talk about Aggressive japan.

I happened to be criticising an aggressive regime.
TODAY. This is not the 1940's..TODAY AMERICA IS THE AGGERSSOR.

Criticising the people who create these ceremonies as nothing more than photo ops, and further propagate their aggression.

It is a joke how blatently they exploit the poor, clueless families.

I am joking about them because they are jokes, and will find out that they'll go down in history .. joke definitely on them.

Agressive governments should go to hell.
I would rather be in the afterlife among its victims, than among it's backers.

YES I am criticising the people responsible for the deaths of our soldiers. My soldiers. 4,000 Killed in Action...and TENS of thousands of others which have been KILLED BECAUSE OF ACTION...And STILL other TENS of thousands which are living suffering horrific injuries. And being now mistreated by the system.

    FOR AGGRESSION. JUST LIKE JAPAN'S.

These were my soldiers. They do not belong to aggression.

I am about to participate in a reading of the names ceremony. But I am not pushing any agenda of aggression against a race of people. We are going to read the 4,000 KIA names... in half hour shifts...Isn't it just fucking great???

HE's definitely asleep in TV-land somewhere. And once I criticised the airing of TV war (of agression) ceremonies, he flipped his wig. Must've been the last straw. I mean those TV memorial ceremonies are the only proud times left for a worthless tv watcher. If you take their self pride which they get from being a backer of their government, then they have absolutely nothing.
    Scum.

I've got a few of " memorial ceremonies " that I have recorded. I like to watch them when I need a good laugh. It's such a joke how the TV use families of those that this regime has murdered, and spins it to seem as though it is the fault of the INTENDED OIL-RICH VICTIMS. (The people of Asia who's oil is needed in order to continue the capitalist's dream.) The cameras zoom in and out the cute little girl on the stage, while the state, federal or city official speaks about the "great nation and the sacrifice....and the blah blah..".

HAHAHA~! BIG FAT FUCKING JOKES. I laugh.

I would REALLY hate to be an oil-rich victim such as in Iraq, and all those nations which are strategicaly associated in the Middle East ... such as Palestine..

But as bad as it is to be murdered for simply having oil right now,.. I would even more hate to die after having lived even one minute as a backer of the people involved in U.S. murderous regime.

    Not this year...

Relax, not gonna happen (this year)...

Worry more about who will be the D-nom in Denver, how bad gas pump prices will get this summer, what kind of October surprise Iraq will bring, and whether you (or someone you know) is going to lose their job or house or both in 2008...

Despite the fact that the NIE report was overly rose-colored, and despite the fact that Bush-cheney might see a need to take out Iran's growing nuke threat, it's not gonna happen on their watch...

However, the Saudis (and the rest of the mid-East)
might be prudent to prep defenses for some type of
nuclear fallout during C-O-M's first term...

    Don't be so sure...

Don't be so sure. Here is a clip form a Christian Science Monitor article.

Across Iraq, battles erupt with Mahdi Army

On Tuesday, Rear Adm. Greg Smith, spokesman for US-led multinational forces in Iraq, blamed the elite Quds units of Iran's Revolutionary Guards for supplying the 22 107-mm and 122-mm rockets that hit the heavily fortified area of Baghdad that is home to the US Embassy.

"We believe the violence is being instigated by members of special groups that are beholden to the Iranian Quds Force and not Sadr.... Although we are concerned, we know that very few Iraqis want a return to the violence they experienced before the surge," he says.

Admiral Smith says US and Iraqi forces were facing two distinct enemies in Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) and the Iranian-trained and supplied special groups. But he adds, "AQI is still Iraq's No. 1 enemy."

There is growing concern, however, that Iran could respond to such US accusations. "This is pretty serious, and if the Iranians do not back down rapidly this will escalate," says Martin Navias, an analyst at Britain's Centre for Defence Studies at King's College in London. "The US has a number of problems with Iran, mainly the nuclear program and its behavior in Iraq. There are many people in the Bush administration who want to hit Iran."

While Iraqi troops fought with Shiite militants in Basra Tuesday, a contingent of Coalition troops, including British and US forces, mobilized at Basra's border with Iran to prevent militiamen from escaping or smuggling in ammunition and weapons, according to a senior security source in the city who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of his remarks.

The US military refused to comment on this, citing "security reasons" during ongoing operations, while another spokesman, Col. Bill Buckner, said the Basra operation was Iraqi-led and that the US was providing "limited assistance" mainly in "intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and ... support aircraft."

The US military has regularly accused Iran of smuggling weapons into Iraq over this border, particularly armor-piercing bombs known as explosively formed penetrators (EFP) that have been blamed for the deaths of many US soldiers in Iraq.

    Emphasis added.

    Not this year?

I predict this year. Sometime before the General Election. Right after the Kitty Hawk is fired upon, maybe sunk. It will be sad, much sadder than Cookie's story.

But John McCain will promise to avenge us. Hillary and Obama will make hawkish noises, but no one will really trust them to protect our freedoms from evildoers. Our new president, John McCain will follow Bush/Cheney in wreaking vengeance like the world has never seen and America will feel much better about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and anywhere else that John McCain decides to bomb bomb bomb.

A great firewall will be built around the Internet and protesters will called enemy combatants.

Thus, history will be rewritten and prove Bush and the neocons right.

And a handful of people will marvel and whisper to themselves, how did Already Raptured know all this beforehand?

    Submitted by AlreadyRaptured on March 29, 2008 - 6:34am.

    nope... not this year

Barack will not be president this year...
so the earliest he will be able to bomb bomb bomb Iran is 2009.

    But if you are Right...
we handful of people will marvel
    and whisper among ourselves,
She knew because... she has already been raptured.

    Submitted by bearbunn on March 29, 2008 - 7:09am.

    This year

Barack will not likely be president next year either. The press has already chosen McCain. Neither of them will be president when the Kitty Hawk goes down.

Just because McCain is probably our next president, this doesn't mean that the present administration wants him to take the blame for starting another war. The powers that own all politicians would rather that he not because then it would look like the party of war was Republican. This will not prevent him, however, from vigorously staying the course in the war against Islamofascism.

Maybe July, maybe October, but 2008.

    Just curious...

Do you REALLY think McCain will win in November?

    Old, old, olde semi-lucid, bush-3rd-term, hunnert-years-war, economically-clueless John McCain?

Why are you not chugging the progresso-liberal-latte-kool-aid?

    ...

    Even more curious re:

Who are these "powers that own all politicians" ??

    Submitted by bearbunn on March 29, 2008 - 9:17pm.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but you asked.

Do you REALLY think McCain will win in November?

I can't see any way around it unless we suddenly and miraculously get a free press and ditch voting machines.

However, the "too liberal" McCain will not be president for long. Vice presidents are carefully chosen in smoke filled rooms.

Just as, if Gore had won, Lieberman would have been president after Gore's assassination, a strategically chosen vice president will ascend to the puppet stage when McCain has his heart attack or whatever. I wonder who he might be. The crystal ball is still foggy. . . .

Why are you not chugging the progresso-liberal-latte-kool-aid?

I love the taste of it, but cannot drink it anymore. I've opened my eyes and seen too much. The latte-kool-aid used to give me a false feeling of hope and the will to call congressmen and donate money to politicians, but it stopped working right after MSNBC won their appeal to keep Kucinich out of the debates.

Who are these "powers that own all politicians" ??

They are the masters who own our press, our air waves, our banks and lots of other stuff. They donate money to campaigns and decide what TV pundits can say.

Some of them can be found at the Council for Foreign Relations. Others at the Council for National Policy and wherever else Grover Norquist hangs out.

Okay, so they don't own all politicians. They don't own marginalized nuts like Ron Paul, Mike Gravel or my favorite, Dennis Kucinich. They only own the politicians who have a voice on TV.

    Submitted by AlreadyRaptured on March 30, 2008 - 2:57am.

    No apology necessary...

    your response was fascinating.

    Q: Who else besides Grover

Q: Who else besides Grover Norquist is in this Meritocracy group -- and do they really have the power to cause (and time for October) the sinking of a carrier and/or a nuke strike by the US or Israel?

Only the names of the surrogates are visible. The Meritocrats at the top of the heirarchy are cloaked in a darkness that my crystal ball cannot penetrate.
Their surrogates include politicians, ex-presidents and religious leaders whose names are familiar to all. You can probably ferret them out by channeling Google.

Grover Norquist is the liason between the Councils and the White House. His connections are legion.

The CFR is the council that will decide the fate of Iran. Even Darth Cheney quakes at the thought of making decisions against their will.

Do they control the scripts of both O'reilly and Olbermann?

Not their scripts, just their jobs. Olbermann walks a tightrope even though he has been designated the man to draw liberals to MSNBC. This allows MSNBC to educate liberal leaning voters who otherwise might avoid the influence of cable news altogether. You might have noticed that Hardball precedes Keith. Until recently, even I have been known to watch Hardball while waiting for Keith. Chris Matthews strikes me as a man looking for favors from the Meritocracy.

    * the msm produces an occasional gem despite its constricted clueless read-the-AP/dnc/rnc-wire-release cesspool of non-investigative reporting, but most of it is wretchedly unwatchable {except - one recent 'gem' was the CIA Dir Mike Hayden interview on Russert}

    * small bits of cable "news" on Msnbc-Fox-PBS are entertaining -- vast chunks of Msnbc-Fox are pathetic puke

    * Olbermann is a ratings pimp and Brokaw-wannabe...
silly doing his bushee-eyed bush rants, trite doing his tiresome Bill'O attacks, inciteful only when he asks good leading questions of a sharp politico panel

    * Matthews is a boy-man looking for favors from everyone... I wrote him off as a has-been a year ago but now, thanks to the C-O sexism-racism broo-ha-ha issues, and historic Dem primary race, and a decent producer-select set of panelists on occasion -- yes, I watch Hardball some nights

What else have you got before we close this strange string on this now shot-gunned thread?

    Fed UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Oh, man, am I TIRED!

I signed this petition WEEKS ago, when it first appeared on the web, as did a LOT of other people. So, what is happening? Where are the hearings? Why aren't the creatures in prison? When will the war end? When do we stop threatening to start WW3?

When do I get my country back?

conyers, the most worthless sack of shit ever in congress..

if a single bomb drops upon iran, it will be directly due to this piece of shit not doing what he has sworn to do many times -- protect the constitution.

when that first iranian kid is killed, he should do the honorable thing and suck a bullet out of a .357 magnum. He's very good at sucking.

Disaster Capitalists chomping at the bit. WWIII is for them to..

Profit from. There is some speculation that the Cheney/Bush Axis of Evil will also selectively attack the nuclear stockpiles in China and Russia to make sure they stay out of it.
Just imagine a time where world war is starting, global depression and a possible second civil war on top of it? Was it 1938 or 2008? This is a trick question. There are no good outcomes.
We are in for a hellish ride.
Think "HANDMAID'S TALE" & "THE ROAD" with a dose of "1984" and "IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE." If they get their way it could evovle into a capitalist/Christian version of "WE." But it will be real and nasty for the 80% that aren't rich or the security forces guarding them.

Those books were written by . . .

doom and gloom conspiracy theorists. A new book must be written.

The optimistic disaster capitalists know that there is a bright side to nuclear war and global depression.

The world is overpopulated with more slave labor than an ownership society can use. Why not start over with a New Earth, cleansed of those unwilling to bow down to the Meritocracy?

I swear, if McCain wins, someone should shove a pocketsize carry constitution down Conyers' throat and choke him with it.

That CSM article you cite "may" be accurate, but...
it has nothing to do with a possible nuclear response in 2008.

Better at this point to focus on the other thread which developed under Kimberley's article...

    WTF?

WHY have Speaker Pelosi and Conyers and Congress NOT
    started impeachment proceedings yet??

WHY NOT at least indict Cheney??

We are burning daylight here, folks...

What will happen after the United States attacks Iran?

Assume the attack plan of choice is used: striking 2,000 or more targets using ballistic missiles as earth penetrators in a maneuver called over-the-shoulder bombing equipped with "low yield" nuclear warheads yielding five megatons, 330 times the yield of the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima.

Assume there is no counterstrike against the United States as international treaties allow against nuclear nations which attack unarmed nations. Assume there are no other nuclear exchanges. What will happen after the United States attacks Iran?

An extinction level event will ensue. It'll look like this: you'll wake up one day and the sky will be a funny brown color, not blue. During the day it will go to jet black, and the air around you will become filled with particulate from microfine dust to big chunks. If you're above ground, it won't matter where you are. You'll breath it, get very sick and die in unspeakable horror as your body sizzles and falls apart.

The Saudis have more to worry about than leaks. No one and nothing will survive, except maybe the cockroaches. It's the only way they can be sure they "get" all the hippies.

Nuclear Winter will be mild . . .

And global warming will be solved.

Meanwhile the Cronies will have built and furnished a comfortable fallout shelter in an underground military base.

In this way, when they crawl back out of their hole, the Meritocracy will no longer have rabble ruining the scenery in their world.

We don't know what the Saudis told Cheney in private -- or even more to the point, what he told them. But the release of this story now, just after his departure, would seem to be a clear indication that the Saudis have good reason to fear a looming attack on Iran's nuclear sites and are actively preparing for it.

I'm thinking he told them that he doesn't wish to purchase any more of their "AQI's" (to help the American agenda) for use in Iraq. And right away the Saudis' know something must be up.

Now let's see if there's a drop in instances of AQI .

AQI = Al Qaeda in Iraq

Submitted by Michael Sheridan on March 29, 2008 - 8:24pm.

    ___________

    Quote:
Estimates for AQI numbers range from 850 – about 3 to 5 percent of the Sunni insurgency – to several thousand.[1][14] In 2006 the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research estimated that AQI’s membership was in a range of "more than 1,000," putting AQI’s forces at less than 1 percent of the insurgency. In 2007 the State Department dropped its base-level estimate, because, as an official explained, "the information is too disparate to come up with a consensus number".

According to both the July 2007 National Intelligence Estimate and the Defense Intelligence Agency reports AQI accounted for 15 percent of attacks in Iraq. However, the Congressional Research Service noted in its September 2007 report that attacks from al-Qaeda are less than two percent of the violence in Iraq and criticized the administration’s statistics, noting that its false reporting of insurgency attacks as AQI attacks has increased since the "surge" operations began.
