Here's what Republicans have done "for" America:
1. Resisted minimum wage and living wage proposals, thereby guaranteeing that our poverty rate would reach record levels.
2. Exported our jobs overseas, leaving only dust, rust, and the whistling wind in former factory towns from coast to coast.
3. Fought unions with a vehemence that would include breaking organizers' heads with company thugs' swung clubs, except that modern means for harming labor are less violently overt, but doubly effective.
4. Transformed their workforces from full-time to part-time, thus avoiding health, pension, and other benefits that the rest of developed humanity universally enjoys.
5. Tried to privatize Social Security, threatening our seniors' ability to escape destitution when Wall Street takes a nosedive, which flagrant Republican support for irresponsible corporate and financial mega-greed makes inevitable.
6. Ignored crucial safety concerns, giving us coal mine explosions, an oil rig catastrophe, countless consumer product recalls, plus a bleak environmental future.
7. After destroying our jobs, they've claimed unemployment insurance makes us "soft."
8. Lied us into unnecessary conflicts that enriched war profiteers, while cruelly sacrificing thousands for something that history has already sternly condemned.
The picture is crystal clear.
Ultra-conservative Republicans/Tea Partiers winning on Election Day would intolerably exacerbate our existing national calamity.
In communities throughout this country, hard-pressed working (or unemployed) families know full well where their suffering originates.
They can compare their own deteriorating neighborhoods with their proliferating for-sale signs -- grim evidence of a withering foreclosure epidemic -- against the political placards in plush, gated parts of town, invariably promoting this or that Republican candidate.
Republicans who fully back the "Lemon Pledge" or "Plague on America" programmatic proposal recently presented to an incredulous citizenry by unreconstructed GOP con men.
That document -- laughable in its wholesale re-issue of profits-before-people notions responsible for tanking our economy in the first place -- has been condemned as being vapidly ridiculous by even some conservatives.
Sure, the Democrats have too many irritating Blue Dogs and Republican-lite fakers within their big tent
But they've also got Black, Progressive and other worthy caucuses, which would gain enough strength to really put our working-class majority's vital requirements on the front burner...if only their ranks were bolstered by just a few more victories for truly good, conscientious candidates running against the unmitigated enemies of public welfare and the common good who campaign as Republicans.
Conversely, if the Tea Party influenced Republicans of 2010 take back control of either or both houses of Congress, typical US workers will see their wallets emptied almost as quickly and completely as if they'd been held up by an armed robber.
Ordinary folks aren't gullible simpletons.
They understand that Republicans equate America with its richest, smallest minority, and that everyone else is supposedly contemptible riff-raff in whose behalf not a bit of wealthy people's money should ever be spent on any sort of governmental aid.
Would we have Social Security or Medicare in a right-wing Republican dream world?
Nope.
And no public education either.
Everything would be a privatized business, with all of the outrageous corner cutting and disregard for actual human need that's shamefully typified ultra-conservative attitudes over the years.
Especially disturbing this time around, however, is the crazed bigotry and open trending toward fascism that have wildly surfaced as conservative extremists have gone virtually insane over a very intelligent and capable black man's election as President.
Barack Obama is a maddening affront to, and disproval of, their white-supremacist bias. But they react by embracing even more bizarre and dangerous, thoroughly discredited prejudice, including unabashed neo-Nazi ideology.
My father didn't fight the Axis in WWII to have that happen in the USA, scarcely over a half century later!
No, the overwhelming majority of souls in my working-class town aren't falling for the dirty trick that they're disinterested and aren't going to show up at the polls. I dare say the same is definitely true in most of America.
We're going to be there in large numbers on Nov. 2, and vote like our livelihoods, freedom, and lives themselves depended on it.
Because they assuredly do.
We won't sit idly by while the worst plundering bunch since the Visigoths tries to take charge!
